There is a difference in the way certain individuals travel and it is called efficiency. It spells the difference between the unsophisticated journeyer and the traveler who knows how effect the entire process with relative ease and grace. Certainly, people comfortably attired are much admired. They check into the best of hotels with a handsome carry-on that is not incredibly overstuffed, and look clean and polished even if wearing the most casual of attire. How do they do it? They learn how to pack light. They also know packing light means better travel mobility and not so many frustrations when traveling.
The first thing you need to learn is not to travel as if you weren't ever planning to return home. Certainly layers are important however all in the right proportion. In order to make travel more streamlined first acquire the right attitude. Only take what you require. Clothes can be paired in order that you can create and wear several looks with four or five basic items.
Also, if you overload your carry-on all the extra weight is going to feel twice as heavy once you reach your stay option. This is particularly true if it isn't properly organized. You'll need to know precisely what it is you need to take with you. In order to think like a true jet-set traveler your mindset needs to improve.
You must first think of your travel itinerary and say to yourself I'm doing such and such therefore I will need this item. Never reason in your mind I will take this item so I can involve myself in this activity. The proof is in the pudding and if you think like the former your packing efficiency is going to greatly improve. You'll be packing for climate, and pre-planned activities. Traveling with too much stuff only makes you look like you've been left behind by a traveling road show.
The general rule is for stays over a week five items will do. You'll need a) sleepwear, b) four casual outfits that can be switched around for different looks; and c) one clothing item for formal dining or events. Also remember if your clothes require laundering, the stay facilities can provide it. Therefore, there is never any reason to travel with a large amount of items. Further, toiletries are easy enough to come by when staying at most major chains, or you can purchase them almost anywhere so why pack them?
If you are attending a formal affair bring low heeled shoes if you are a woman. Also pack the socks you wear for casual around the heeled shoes and place the shoes and socks on the bottom section of the bag. Things will get wrinkled so make certain the hotel has an iron in the room. However, this doesn't present much of a problem because nearly all the major chains carry irons as well as hair dryers. In summary, pack your bags around your itinerary and all good things will follow. There will be far less frustration and travel will be much more mobile for you as well as enjoyable.
