Traveling Alone in Sydney Australia

If you are requiring a bit of an overseas experience before finally settling down to a job, kids, demands of a loving spouse and a mortgage you are well advised to kick your heels up a bit in the land down under. Most people travel to Europe, however if you are fairly young you can go to Europe anytime. Not many individuals are afforded the opportunity to travel to Australia.

The best place to call home base is Sydney. Further there are a number of youth hostels that offer well-organized social atmospheres and plan events such as barbeques and other fun activities. Once you arrive at the hostel play along and make the rounds by introducing yourself as the new kid on the block. In a short period of time you'll be able to latch onto a group of amenable good friends. Since you are traveling on your own it is advised you stay at a hostel that is smaller. The bigger hostels are more appropriate for two persons traveling together. Individuals over the Internet recommend Sydney Beach House and Glebe Village as the best locations for those traveling on their own.

You are traveling by yourself so an inexpensive hostel is a good plan. Now you'll need to come up with an idea of how to get around Sydney. You needn't worry much here because Sydney makes it very easy for a person to travel about town. The Sydney pass for transportation is right around one hundred sixty five U.S. dollars at this writing and you can use it seven days per week. With it you receive unlimited rides on a) trains, b) buses, and c) ferries. Your cost is reasonable because the pass basically pays for itself after several days of use. However, if you wish to travel much further out, extensions to the pass will need to be purchased. If you have some time available you'll want to walk about the city. Make certain you review the city map and keep it on your person should you need to reference how to get to a certain sight or attraction.

The main attractions include the Sydney Harbor Bridge, Darling Harbor, and the Opera. These can be viewed in a day. Afterwards you may wish to take in the Taronga Park Zoo and the Aquarium. Of course the latter two attractions charge an entry fee, so you'll need to spend some cash. As with any great city there are the attractions provided by “Mother Nature.” One attraction is the Blue Mountains. It is suggested prior to your trip you purchase a popular travel guide and study it reviewing attractions, the hours and days of operation of the sights, where located, and accordingly put together a travel itinerary. After reviewing the various sights, then study a map and check out how the city is laid out; plan your stroll through the city and to each attraction accordingly.

If you like exercise then you'll find quite a bit to do in Sydney. There are a number of natural pathways welcome to hikers. Another option is a guided bush walk. A person who enjoys the beach can visit Bondi Beach and Manly Beach. The beaches aren't too far away from the centre of Sydney and are surrounded by viable areas wherein there are some well-regarded hostels near each.

Shopping is best for the bargain-hunter at Glebe Markets on Saturday and Paddy's Market. Rocks Market is very popular however a costlier option. If you are well-to-do you can expect a first rate shopping experience at the Queen Victoria Building. However, if you have spent a great deal already you're better off to opt for the Shops of Piccadilly. As you might have already noticed there is a shopping venue for everyone.
